Internships
Research and Development Intern - Fall 2022
Internship Description:
Denizen Studios is recruiting talented and passionate film and journalism students for a paid semester-long internship program, with potential to stay on for future semesters. Interns will be primarily focused on research and development on select projects, with plenty of opportunities to infuse their own creative interests into the work. This internship is currently remote, with opportunities to meet up with the company directors for in-person coffee conversations throughout the semester around New York City. We are a small, tight-knit company that firmly believes interns must be (1) fairly paid, and (2) appropriately credited for all of their time and energy.
Intern Responsibilities:
Roughly 40% of the intern’s time will be spent on research for our feature film in production, including story, impact and distribution, funding and grant opportunities, and partnerships.
Another 40% of the intern’s time will be spent on research and story development of new projects, as guided by company directors and the personal passions of the intern.
The remaining 20% of the intern’s time will be spent doing administrative tasks, attending team and partner meetings, and working potential shoots or events.
Additional opportunities may arise for interns to get paid on-set production or post-production work with Denizen or our partners.
Company Description:
Denizen Studios is a New York-based, independent production company that specializes in exceptional, provocative works of non-fiction art and real-world impact. Leveraging documentary storytelling and advocacy, we create original and partnered content that informs, immerses, and inspires audiences toward collective progress.
Two Tisch UGFTV alumni, Jacob Fertig and Jaydn Ray Gosselin, founded Denizen at the start of 2020 to marry their passions for non-fiction storytelling and advocacy. Inspired by models of intimate co-creation, they have collaborated with multi-hyphenate artists, activists, curators, and educators to produce international stories and impact campaigns, including: Amnesty International; the Academy Award-nominated team at Field of Vision; Doc Society; Forensic Architecture; Nursing Home Lives Matter; Open Doors; the Ads-Up Refugee Network; and Humanity in Action. Our projects have been covered in The Guardian, The Independent, The Australian Book Review, New York Magazine’s The Cut, openDemocracy, and New York Daily News.
A denizen is anyone who calls somewhere home, regardless of their legal status. By extension, we are committed to breaking down borders, creating diverse spaces of community and risk-taking, and reaching audiences worldwide through new modes of storytelling and collaboration.
